Dining with Diabetes
“Dining with Diabetes” is a four-class program for persons with or at risk of having type 2 diabetes and their families or friends. Classes will be held on Monday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on March 26, and April 2, 9, and 16, 2018. Participants will receive one hour of instruction from registered dietitian, Katie Tidei, Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital, and a one-hour cooking school taught by Janet Steffens, Purdue Extension Educator, at each class. Julie Blocher, Senior Wellness Director at the Floyd County YMCA will explain the importance of regular exercise and help participants find creative ways to build exercise into their busy schedules.
Classes will be held at the Purdue Technology Center, 3000 Technology Ave., in New Albany, Indiana (across from Kohl’s on Charlestown Road). The cost is $40 per person or $60 per couple (same household) and includes a notebook of reference information, diabetic-friendly recipes, and samples of food prepared at the cooking schools. Learn how to cook with sweeteners, cook with less salt and fat, and prepare tasty dishes with fruits and vegetables.
