April 2018 Computer Classes at NA-FC Library
Now Featuring Selected Daytime Classes
NEW for April 2018 (and beyond), computer classes at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library are taught by knowledgeable Library staff members. Since our staff instructors all have different areas of expertise, students get to enjoy not only a variety of topics, but a variety of fun and friendly instructors as well. In addition to classes on Microsoft Word and Excel, we are pleased to offer a new class on career and job-seeking resources. Registration is required, and class size is currently 10 students. To register for any of the following free classes, please visit the Customer Service Desk or call 812-949-3522. Unless otherwise noted, computer classes are held in the Gallery Meeting Room, located on the lower level of the Library, right across from the elevator.
Tuesday, April 3, 10:00-11:30 AM
In this class, you will learn the basics of computers. We will briefly cover the terms 'hardware' and 'software'. You will get an understanding of the different types and parts of computers and how to perform essential functions.
Thursday, April 5, 10:00-11:30 AM
Come learn the very basics of Microsoft Word! Our instructor will cover how to open Word, create, edit and save a document, and enter and change your text, as well as changing your margins and paragraphs and making lists. Once you have created your document, you will learn the steps to print it out.
Thursday, April 12, 10:00-11:30 AM
Building on the skills covered in Beginner Word, participants will learn how to use the various formatting tools, and how to create a table and insert photos and graphics.

This class is for those who have just taken the first steps onto Facebook or those who may be interested but are unsure what to do/what it is about. Come to class and let our instructor tell you what they know about this social media platform!
Monday, April 23, 6:30-8:00 PM
In this class you will learn the basics of Excel, including an overview of the beginning functions of Excel. You will learn how to open, create and save an Excel document, get a layout of the different tools, and find out the basic spreadsheet concepts and how to do some beginning data entry and formatting.
Resumes and Other Career Resources

Use Career Transitions, provided by your library, to get job-seeking tips, create resumes and cover letters, and practice interviewing with online simulations. Be sure to bring your email address and email password to class in order to get the most out of the Career Transitions website. If you don’t have an email address, see one of our librarians to get one set up.
Monday, April 30, 6:30-8:00 PM
This class will build on what you learned in Beginner Excel, delving deeper into the concepts of Excel and its formatting. In addition, you will focus more on finishing your worksheet as well as how to utilize cell references between worksheets. Lastly, the instructor will cover conditional formatting and formulas that use cell references and basic mathematical calculations.
