Updated Court System Information

An Update from the Floyd County Circuit and Superior Courts and Magistrate Court

March 24th

The Judges of the Floyd Circuit and Superior Courts and the Floyd County Magistrate have met and reviewed Governor Holcomb's Executive Order 20-08 ("Directive for Hoosiers to Stay Home"). The Courts continue to balance the need for essential court operations to take place with the need for citizens to stay home and socially distance when out of their homes. Thus, the Courts remain open for statutorily required and other critical and emergency hearings. Also, where possible, scheduled hearings will be held telephonically. The Courts are in the process of rescheduling many cases in order to reduce the need for people to leave their houses. Parties or their attorneys will be notified by mail of the rescheduled dates and times. However, if you have a case pending with a hearing date, you must appear in Court unless otherwise informed by the Court. Also, attorneys and litigants are also asked to check the status of individual cases on mycase.in.gov or by contacting the Court before they come to City-County Building.

It continues to be ordered, in an effort to reduce exposure to COVID-19, that only named parties and defendants and their attorneys should come to court hearings. Members of the public who need to do court business or business in the Clerk's Office in the City-County Building are ordered to only come into the building to do critical emergency tasks which cannot wait until the current COVID-19 health emergency concludes, and family members and friends of litigants and of those doing court business or business in the Clerk's Office are ordered to stay home or remain outside City-County Building. People needing to do critical emergency court business or critical emergency business in the Clerk's Office should call that specific court or the Clerk's Office before coming to the City-County Building.

Any person who is sick should not enter the City-County Building, and any litigant who is sick should request a continuance.
