Hoosier History and Heritage Celebration
The public is invited to attend the annual “Hoosier History and Heritage Celebration” on October 5 at Floyd County 4-H Fairgrounds Newlin Hall and congratulate the newest members of the “First Families of Floyd, Clark, and Harrison Counties Legacy Project.” A drop-in pioneer social will start at 6 PM with frontier-era music by Emily Poe Stumler, a former backup singer and fiddle player with country artist Taylor Swift and a Floyd Central High School graduate. There will be local history and First Families displays. Guests will include genealogists, historians, and reenactors. Attendees are welcome to dress as pioneers. Light refreshments will be served.
At 7 PM, New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan will officially proclaim “First Families of Floyd, Clark, and Harrison Counties in Indiana Day” and “Family History Month” in the city. “First Families” certificates will be awarded to the year’s honorees with verified ancestors in the area before 1841. The “First Families Project” is co-sponsored by the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society and the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library Indiana Room.
